MentorLink Principles

The vision of the program is to create learning communities where people support each other to learn and work more effectively. The program does this by making it easy for people to find skilled professionals who are committed to giving personalised support. These are people who enjoy assisting others to:

  • Effectively apply what they know to real work/life problems.
  • Improve their personal and business performance.
  • Build relationships with people who will encourage their development and performance.
  • Promote their careers and reputations by their workplace and professional Association(s) and clients.

As a mentor registered with MentorLink, I undertake to:

  • Keep my promises, or let my mentee know at the earliest opportunity, if a promise could not be kept, and explain why.
  • Listen to my mentees’ personal views of their experiences/decisions and understand that they are true for them.
  • Disclose to mentee any lack of competency and refer the mentee to other people who are more competent to assist.
  • Declare at the earliest opportunity any limitations in maintaining a mentee’s confidentiality.
  • Assist my mentee to understand more clearly their current competencies.
  • Assist my mentee to identify specific desired competencies and personal goals, as well as appreciate the learning process.
  • Agree with my mentee the type of mentoring, the processes and other actions that will be most useful in developing the mentee’s desired competencies and goals.
  • Respect my mentees’ decisions, including the mentees’ decision to discontinue mentoring with me.
  • Demonstrate the competencies I am registered to mentor in.
  • Give my mentee balanced specific feedback with the genuine intention of assisting my mentee to develop.
  • Assist my mentee to find his/her own solutions.
  • Offer suggestions without resolving the situation for my mentee.
  • See my mentee’s potential and encourage them to have confidence to try more effective ways of working and being.
  • Review my mentees’ progress towards achieving desired competencies and personal goals.
  • Ask my mentee for specific feedback about the mentoring services I provide.
  • Encourage my mentee to complete and return their Mentee Satisfaction Survey at the end of the mentoring partnership.
